    Description

JEFFERSON GLASS BLUE OPALESCENT IRIS WITH MEANDER PITCHER & 6 TUMBLERS EAPG
A beautiful water set of early American made glass in the form of a lovely water pitcher and six (6) tumblers (7 total pieces of glass and commonly called a “water set”).
They are all made in the desirable blue opalescent colored glass.
These are all quality pieces of pressed glass made by the Jefferson Glass Company formerly of Steubenville, Ohio.
The pattern is called “Iris with Meander”.
This set has been in my personal collection since 1998.
This pattern is pictured and described in the book
Encyclopedia of Victorian Colored Pattern Glass Book II Opalescent Glass from A to Z
    by William Heacock.
The water pitcher (in a different color) is pictured in this book as Photo # 139 and the tumbler is pictured as Photo # 155 (in a different color).
It is a gorgeous set as you can see from the photos!
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
These pieces date to circa 1904.
A few words about hand-made glass:
Since each piece is individually hand-made there may be slight imperfections such as whether the piece sits perfectly level or is perfectly symmetrical.
There may also be some minor variations in color between pieces and factory blemishes created in the process of making the glass such as tool marks, straw marks, acid runs as well as bubbles, tiny stones and tiny black ash specs internal to the glass.
I will not mention these unless I notice them during checking or photographing the glass.
None of what I have mentioned in this paragraph is in any way considered damage.
The set is all in excellent condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of these items.
I don’t see much in the way of straw marks bubbles or stones on the tumblers; in fact, I question if some of them have ever been used.
There are a few minor factory blemishes or flaws to the tumblers, a small depression on the rim of one (this can be seen in the 8
    th
photo on the backside of the tumbler on the left), a minor internal heat check to the foot of one, and a few other very minor tool marks.
I do see some straw marks in the inside bottom of the pitcher as well as some stones and one bubble in the glass.
As far as damage, I found virtually nothing.
Everything I mention here has been studied with a loupe and is accurate; anything else you may think you see in the photos is a reflection.
There is only one very tiny flea bite to the pattern on the pitcher and to one of the tumblers and two very tiny flea bites to the rim of one other tumbler.
These are so tiny I did not even try to photograph them.
None of the minor damage I have mentioned is significant at all, much less than I would expect to see on close inspection of 110+ year old pieces of glass.
I do not really see even any light signs of use except for some wear to the underside of the foot on the pitcher that I would expect to see on a piece of glass of this age but I see none of this on the tumblers.
All seven pieces ring like a bell all over when I tap them with my ring.
This is a very nice set and in exceptionally good condition for its age.
Please keep in mind these photos can be blown up at least 8X-10X times normal, so anything you see will look 8X-10X times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions
The pitcher is about 5” (12.7 cm) in diameter and sits about 8.75” (22.2 cm) tall at the spout.
The tumblers are about 3.125” (7.9 cm) in diameter and sit about 3.75” (9.5 cm) tall.
    Approximate Weight
The pitcher is about 4 pounds 2.875 ounces (1.897 kilograms).
The tumblers average about 9.5 ounces (271 grams) each.

I am required to charge 6.5% Ohio State Sales Tax on all purchases shipped to an address within the State of Ohio.
