Description
EAPG RIVERSIDE GLASS GREEN GOLD DECORATED CROESUS MINIATURE IND. CREAM PITCHERA beautiful piece of hand-made early American pattern glass (EAPG).
It was made by the
Riverside Glass Works formerly of Wellsburg, West Virginia.
The pattern is Riverside’s # 484 Croesus.
It is a miniature cream pitcher or individual creamer.
Riverside made three different size cream pitchers in this pattern and this one is the smallest of the three.
This piece is made in an emerald green color and decorated with gold trim on the rim and selected panels of the pattern around the body.
One of the more attractive early patterns in my opinion and not a common piece to find.
This same piece is pictured on page 155 of the book
Riverside Glass Works Of Wellsburg, West Virginia 1879-1907
by C. W. Gorham.
The author describes this piece as an “Individual Cream”.
According to this author the pattern was introduced in 1897.
The piece has great color and is gorgeous as you can see from the photos!
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.
Age and Condition
This piece dates to circa 1898.
The glass is in excellent original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
Other than some wear to the gold all that I need to mention is a small place on the pattern on the front side that after studying with a loupe appears to be a tiny flea bite rather than a factory blemish.
Regardless it was there when the gold decoration was added to the piece (I see no evidence of the gold being touched up) and is very minor.
This can be seen to the left of center at about the 9:00 clock position in the photo of the front.
Otherwise, there are no chips, cracks, hairlines, cloudiness or repairs that I can see.
There are also some straw marks from the making of the glass and a very common occurrence (factory blemish) on hand made glass pieces of this era.
There is also some wear to the gold as can be seen in the photos.
Please keep in mind these photos can be blown up at least 8X-10X times normal, so anything you see will look 8X-10X times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
The piece is about 3.25” (8.3cm) from spout to handle, about 2.25” (5.7 cm) wide and sits about 3” (7.6 cm) off the table.
Approximate Weight
About 5.625 ounces (160 grams).
