Description

VERY EARLY NORTHWOOD GLASS COMPANY HANDPAINTED DEEP-GREEN GLASS TUMBLERS,
WITH ENAMEL-PAINTED FLOWERS AND DELICATE BEADING AT THE RIM.
These are signed both with the underlined N inside a circle, the typical Northwood glass logo, and a separate letter 'O,' suggesting these may date to the earlier years of Harry Northwoods' glassmaking in America, when he began working in Ohio.
The glasses also have manufacturing flaws or imperfections, such as air bubble or lines in the glass (photos show what looks at first glance like a crack on the bottom is just a flaw and not through the glass at all), which is not true of the perfected carnival and stretch art glass he manufactured later in West Virginia.
Other enamel-painted floral glassware in green from Northwood also mentions flaws, so these anomalies seem common to his early glassmaking efforts.
These are likely from a set of water or lemonade glasses. Each is approximately 4 inches tall.
Both show some wear on the rim, including smoothed tiny bites (and an air bubble). One has a little nick that has a thin hairline extending downward from it, though glass is stable (see last photo, right side tumbler).
